To show up when people in Kozhikode, Kochi or anywhere in Kerala search for what you sell, you need four things: a complete Google Business Profile, the same name, address and phone number everywhere, a steady flow of genuine reviews, and a website with a clear page for each service you offer.

Local SEO is often the cheapest way for a small business to win customers, because people searching "near me" are usually ready to buy. Use this checklist to cover the basics.

1. Set up your Google Business Profile properly

  • Claim and verify your business at business.google.com.
  • Choose the most specific primary category (for example "Bakery", not "Shop").
  • Add your exact address, service area, phone number, website and opening hours.
  • Upload real photos of your shop, team and products — and add new ones every month.
  • Post updates and offers regularly so the profile stays active.

2. Keep your NAP consistent everywhere

NAP means Name, Address, Phone. Use exactly the same details on your website, Google profile, Facebook, Instagram, JustDial and any other directory. Small differences — an old phone number, a different spelling of your area — make Google less confident about where you are.

3. Get genuine reviews, and reply to them

  • Ask happy customers for a review right after a good experience — send the review link on WhatsApp.
  • Reply to every review, positive or negative, politely and within a few days.
  • Never buy fake reviews; Google removes them and can suspend your profile.

4. Make your website local

  • Mention your town and district in page titles and headings — for example "Bakery in Kozhikode".
  • Create a separate page for each main service, with a clear description and price guidance.
  • Show your full address, phone and a map on your contact page.
  • Make sure the site loads fast on mobile data; most local searches happen on phones.
  • Add business structured data so search engines can read your details.

5. Get listed in the right places

List your business on trusted directories such as JustDial, IndiaMART (for suppliers), and industry-specific sites. Local news sites, associations and partner businesses linking to you also help Google trust your location.

A 30-minute monthly routine

  1. 1Post one update and a few new photos on your Google profile.
  2. 2Reply to all new reviews.
  3. 3Check your details are still correct everywhere.
  4. 4Look at Google Business Profile insights to see how people found you.
